The Centre and many BJP ruled States are hell-bent on a collision course over culling of cows, and the sale and eating of cow meat (Beef). The largely Jain communities of Maharashtra and Gujarat may not eat or like Beef eaters but they certainly wear shoes. eat Sugar de-carbonised by animal bones and they also use toothpaste which has bone carbon and finally gelatine for making capsules comes from animal gelatine. To top it all they drink the Milk.
And yet no one questions, how are 2.6 Bn feet covered in shoes if the Buffalo, Cow and Camel hides are not used. More importantly, starting from the foothills the entire gangetic basin has tanneries that exist because Buffalo and Cow slaughter is not only a common man’s business and employment generator, but also a means to fill their hunger with Beef. Beef which will go waste especially from old and sick animals, which will need to be thrown into rivers polluting them further.
Come to the larger cities and all five star hotels have right under the eyes of the GOI sold Cow Beef for decades. All South East Asian and Continental cuisine involves Beef, fish, snakes, eels, clams, rabbits, dogs and Deer inners called Veal. These are sold under fancy names Narsi Goreng, Foie De Gras and yes fish eggs as Caviar.
So why the sudden outrage and killings if people have a taste for a particular animal. Even if there are religious reasons, there are equal reasons for the GOI to distance itself from such acts. As one Bihari was telling Dr. Prannoy Roy on TV last night. You give me power and water-but dont I pay for it. The same can be asked of Beef-is culling not employing people, filling stomachs and creating commerce?
If this rubbish continues, India might see the first collapse of a State Government on Beef and finally the Centre will implode.
